I have always known how to deal with my hair and how to keep it moisturised etc. However, it has only been up until recently through doing research where I have learnt how to look after it properly. 3 to 4 years ago I had relaxed my hair and in June '13 I had my final chop, where I said goodbye to those relaxed ends! You can get your natural hair back, it takes time and effort. You will also have moments where you feel like giving up, BUT, it will be worth it in the end!
Something I have been wanting to include on my blog for a while is my hair journey, but it's such a big topic. I don't really know where to begin. So for now I have decided to just show and talk about how I look after it.
I usually just use any shampoo (often TRESemmé) for dry hair with moisture benefits. However I recently picked up the 'AUSSIE MIRACLE MOIST' shampoo and conditioner, which is 'for hair that's dry/ damaged/ a bit unhappy' which is defiantly what my hair has been like recently! The cold weather has done it no favours. So far I'm finding it's working really well with my hair, it's starting to feel much softer and I think I will continue to buy it. It also smells amazing!
Once I have washed my hair with the shampoo, focusing mainly on my scalp and the roots of my hair, (to prevent drying). I will then use A LOT of conditioner through out all of my hair. This is the point where my tangle teaser comes in!
'AUSSIE MIRACLE MOIST' shampoo and conditioner cost me £5 each in superdrugs.
'Tangle teaser' was about £10 in boots.
Before coming out the shower I will squeeze as much of the water in my hair, out as possible. I will then carefully use a towel (or cotton shirt) to squeeze more of the excess water from the ends of my hair. I am try to be careful, so I don't create unwanted frizz.
This is what my hair looks like once I am out of the shower.
After that I will take some leave in conditioner and put it in my hair, generously. The one I have been using recently is the 'Cantu Shea Butter, leave in conditioning repair cream'. I find a lot of leave ins have an incredibly strong sickly smell, but this one is just really nice! I learnt that when using a leave in conditioner, the first (or at least second) ingredient that should be listed is water (aqua) as that is what the hair needs.
The next thing I put into my hair is a moisturiser. I have very recently discovered the 'Sofn'free, curl activator lotion' I find helps to compliment my curls by making them look soft and bouncy. It has given me the confidence to wear my hair down.
I then put in some 'Moroccan argon oil', which is my FAVOURITE oil to put in my hair. It makes my hair really soft and moisturised and smells great (I apologise for my terrible description of smells!) Putting oils in your hair seals the hair shaft which means their is no escape for all the moisturisers you have put into your hair!
The last thing I have recently added to my hair routine is gel. The one I am trying is 'World of curls, gel activator'. I only use a little. It hasn't made my hair feel crispy or dry or look flakey. So, so far, so good.
'Sofn'free, curl activator lotion' which was about £3.99, which is a bargain.
'Moroccan argon oil' was around £7.
'World of curls, gel activator' which was also a cheap £3.50.
Finally, I will leave my hair to dry naturally. I am currently looking for a hair dryer with a diffuser so I can speed up this process. I don't know if I'm being ridiculous, but I am looking for one that will be good to use on my natural hair and that will prevent any damage. So once I have done my research and find one, I will probably do a blog post about it. So if you're interested keep an eye out! :)
I hope you enjoyed reading this!
Lots of love!
